DRAMA ON MONTE BALDO (VERONA) – Yesterday afternoon, Saturday, April 19th, an excursion on Monte Baldo almost turned into a tragedy for a foreign tourist, stranded by adverse conditions at the top of the mountain. The man, who was in the area of Forcella di Valdritta, had climbed the mountain with inadequate equipment, including unsuitable footwear and clothing, facing a still wintry environment and rapidly worsening weather.
Intervention of rescue teams
The rescue request came after the man, cold and unable to descend on his own, asked for help. The first difficulties arose when, due to the fog, the Verona Emergenza helicopter was unable to approach the accident site, forcing the Verona Alpine Rescue teams (10 men) and Ala (4 men) to climb on foot. Despite the difficult environment and weather conditions, the rescuers reached the hiker at around 2,100 meters altitude.
The helicopter arrives for rescue
At around 8:30 pm, a sudden break in the clouds allowed the arrival of the Trento Emergenza helicopter, which was finally able to retrieve the man. The hiker was transported to the hospital for medical checks. The mission, although complex, ended successfully thanks to the work of the rescue teams and the challenges overcome through collaboration among the various rescue groups.
The return to the valley
After securing the hiker, the rescue teams began the return journey to the valley, walking along the trail. The situation tested not only the hiker but also the rescuers themselves, who were able to carry out a complex operation with professionalism and timeliness.
