TREVISO – Violent clash among youngsters in via Roma, right in the center of Treviso, on Friday, April 4th.
The situation escalated, requiring the intervention of law enforcement.
Growing tension since the morning
From the early hours of the day, a tense atmosphere was palpable: some shopkeepers and residents in the area noticed small groups of young people agitatedly walking between via Orioli and via Roma, talking loudly and giving each other threatening looks. A sort of preview of what would explode in the afternoon.
According to initial testimonies, these would be very young boys, many of whom belonging to the so-called second generation, divided into small groups, probably already involved in similar episodes in the past.
The intervention of “Safe Streets” military personnel
Everything happened in a matter of moments. At via Orioli, two young individuals started hitting each other with fists and kicks, while passersby watched in astonishment. The scene then moved to the sidewalk of via Roma, where the situation further deteriorated. To make matters worse, another boy, apparently unrelated to the fight, tried to defend a female friend involved.
The latter came out worse, receiving a violent blow to the face that caused a visible wound and considerable blood loss. The alarm was immediately raised by the military personnel of the “Safe Streets” project, present in the area, who managed to separate the boys and apprehend one of the perpetrators of the aggression.
Frustration of shopkeepers and residents
Within a few minutes, via Roma was filled with flashing lights, with the arrival of police patrols, carabinieri, and local police. One of the young individuals involved was detained and taken to the police station for identification, while the officers began to collect testimonies and check the documents of the others present.
“Here it’s like this every week,” commented a saddened tobacconist in the area, emphasizing how these incidents have become a daily occurrence. A situation that worries not only shopkeepers but also residents, tired of living in fear.
Escalation of youth violence
This episode is part of a broader context, that of the escalation of youth violence that has been affecting the city of Treviso for months, particularly the section between via Roma and piazza Borsa. The city authorities have already intensified checks and patrols, but results are slow to come.
Meanwhile, the area remains under observation, thanks to the strengthened presence of law enforcement, as can be seen from recent measures adopted to monitor at-risk areas.
