BRENZONE (VERONA) – Tragedy struck for an 87-year-old German tourist who was on vacation with his wife on the shores of Lake Garda. The man, staying at a local accommodation, passed away after going for a swim not far from the hotel’s pier.
Emergency triggered after the dive
The drama unfolded within moments. The elderly man plunged into the water for a swim, but something went wrong: shortly after diving in, he disappeared from sight. His wife, who was nearby, noticed that her husband did not resurface and immediately raised the alarm.
Emergency response on site
The swift response from rescue teams, including the medical helicopter, the water ambulance, firefighters’ divers, and the Coast Guard, was not enough to prevent the worst. Despite an intense recovery operation, the man was located and brought back to shore, but unfortunately, there was nothing more that could be done for him.
