TREVISO – Tragedy struck in Treviso as 22-year-old Francesco Favretto passed away on December 23rd after being stabbed during a drug-related fight on December 12th. The young man, a resident of the Santa Bona neighborhood, lost his life on Monday morning at Ca’ Foncello Hospital, where he had been admitted in critical condition after being attacked with a bottle shard and a knife.
The fight and the serious injuries
The assault took place in the parking lot of via Castelmenardo, where Francesco was surrounded and beaten by a group of boys attempting to steal his hashish. Refusing to hand over the drugs, the 22-year-old was kicked and punched before being repeatedly struck with a knife and a bottle shard, sustaining severe wounds to his throat and chest. The gang then robbed him of his bag and cellphone, and finally hit him again on the head with a glass bottle. Despite the prompt intervention of the Suem 118, Francesco succumbed to his injuries 10 days later in the hospital.
Arrests and changes in charges
The three young individuals involved in the assault, a 15-year-old minor and two 18 and 19-year-old boys, have been arrested and are currently in prison. Initially accused of attempted murder, their charges may now be revised, especially for the minor who was initially charged with aggravated robbery, following the victim’s tragic death.
