Tragedy in Montecchio Maggiore (VI) – A serious accident occurred this morning on Viale Trieste, along the regional road 11: a 79-year-old woman was hit by a cement mixer while crossing the pedestrian crossing on her bicycle.
Incident dynamics
According to the initial information gathered by the Local Police of the Castelli, the driver of the cement mixer, a 46-year-old man from Cornedo Vicentino, was traveling towards Verona when, near a pedestrian crossing regulated by a call-controlled traffic light, he struck the cyclist. It remains to be clarified whether the traffic light was activated correctly at the time of the impact.
Ongoing investigations and vehicle seizure
Following the accident, both the heavy vehicle and the bicycle were seized to allow technical investigations to reconstruct the dynamics. The Local Police is collecting testimonies and analyzing every detail, including the functioning of the traffic light system.


Victim conditions and emergency response
The woman was immediately assisted by healthcare professionals and urgently transported by ambulance to the San Bortolo Hospital in Vicenza, where she was admitted in critical condition due to the serious injuries sustained in the impact. The area of the accident remained secured to allow for investigative operations.
